Volunteering your time is a great thing to do. I recently became involved with a charity foundation based out of Chicago - www.DreamsforKids.org - and I couldn't be happier. Doing volunteer work has really opened my eyes and I have become thankful for what I have. It is a great thing to do and I reccomend that everyone try some sort of charity work once in their life. You wont regret it!

Very interesting subject.

I was looking for volunteering opportunities last weekend and saw that Red Cross is recruiting virtual volunteers – ‘people aged 15 to 25 who can use their social networking skills on Facebook or Bebo to spread the word about our work’. Clever approach, but why leave out the 25-plus set? Ok, yes for Bebo but Facebook and other social networks are becoming increasingly popular with older users.

another great example is the Hope Not Hate campaign

used the principle or organising support and raising money through strong peer-to-peer networks, the kinds of things that would take months to do offline, they were able to do in days
