I was lured into clicking on a link in a DM that came from a trusted source (whose account, on reflection, had also been hacked) after which my Twitter log in details were lifted.

And yes, third party Twitter services may be a risk but it's difficult to know the degrees of risk that each pose.</description>

When I started to see this direct message spam starting to appear, probably about six months ago, I changed my password, and I'm now very choosy about which third party twitter services I give my login credentials to (more or less none now). I guess your crowdsourced advice is to do the same?</description>
